Budget: Bingo tax

Waveney MP Peter Aldous has today welcomed the news announced in the Budget that the tax on bingo will be cut in half, which will benefit Beacon Bingo in Lowestoft.

Bingo duty was previously set at the high rate of 20 per cent, but this Budget announced that it would be halved to 10 per cent in order to protect jobs and communities.

Earlier this year Peter visited Beacon Bingo on Battery Green in Lowestoft and saw the importance of protecting the interests of the industry to people in the local community and last month he was part of a delegation who presented the Bingo Association’s Boost Bingo Campaign Petition to 11 Downing Street..

Commenting, Mr Aldous said:

“The number of bingo halls has been falling for decades so it’s great news that the Chancellor is going to cut the tax on bingo by half. For many people bingo is an important social activity that brings together people of different ages and it is vital that the industry is protected from the burden of high taxes.”
