Tax Bombshell Budget
3rd December 2008
Britain is cruelly exposed to the current economic downturn...
No amount of words from Bob Blizzard can disguise the fact that the actions of Gordon Brown over the past 11 years have left Britain cruelly exposed to the current economic downturn and the outcome from last week’s Pre-Budget Report is that Labour have doubled the national debt to £1 trillion, which the country will be paying off for generations. This Tax Bombshell Budget is a £20 billion temporary tax giveaway to be followed by almost £40 billion of announced permanent tax rises.
Everyone earning over £20,000 will be clobbered with higher taxes thanks to Labour, with the future increase in National Insurance being a tax on jobs, which will effect so many.
The way forward is:
- For there to be radical government action to get the banks lending again. David Cameron has proposed a National Loan Guarantee Scheme that would underwrite lending from banks to businesses
- Creating an economic environment which enables the Bank of England to cut interest rates even more drastically.
- Providing tax breaks, as announced by the Conservatives, to encourage companies to take on the previously unemployed.
- Providing permanent funded tax cuts, rather than Labour’s tax cons now followed by tax rises later.
- Cutting down on government waste, such as the scrapping of ID cards, the decommissioning of the NHS computer system and abandoning the unwanted and unnecessary reorganisation of local government in Suffolk for which local people will have to pay.
Gordon Brown failed to mend the roof when the sun shone. He has now mortgaged the country’s future to try to safeguard his own. It’s time for a change.
