Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Waveney Peter Aldous was last week joined by Home Secretary Theresa May on a visit to St Peter's brewery in St Peter South Elmham near Bungay. 

 

St Peter’s Brewery is a past recipient of the Queen’s award for enterprise and international trade. 

 

Following on from Peter Aldous' longstanding campaign to support the beer industry,  the Government has cut beer duty for the third consecutive year. The tax on a typical pint of beer was cut by 1p from 23 March 2015. This means that an average pint of beer is 9 pence cheaper than under the previous Government's duty plans. He has gone further and recently called on the Government to make changes to the calculation of progressive beer duty relief to help the brewing industry export more.

 

With Britain’s breweries now exporting 1.1 billion pints to 113 countries every year, Peter believes it is important that the Government does all it can to facilitate this boost in beer exports and ensure fair opportunity for brewers across the UK.
