In response to the launch of a consultation on MPs’ pay last week as part of IPSA's wider review of MPs remuneration package, Waveney MP Peter Aldous has confirmed that if the proposed pay rise to £74,000 goes ahead, he would not be taking the pay increase.

Mr Aldous said:
“Despite the improved economic outlook, a pay rise is not appropriate at a time when public service pay restraint measures remain in place. If the proposals are approved and there is no mechanism for refusing the pay increase, I will set up a Locality Budget, out of which I'd make donations to charitable and other appropriate causes in the constituency.”

Details of the charitable giving distributions would be made available for scrutiny on Peter's website.
