Local MP Peter Aldous today encouraged local schools to work with their pupils to enter a competition to brighten up an area of Lowestoft.

Aldous is inviting suggestions from creative school children and their teachers on how a local landmark, feature or building in Lowestoft could be revamped or refurbished to make a difference to the town. Entries can be from a single of groups of pupils and should include how they might be organised by teachers from schools in the Waveney area.

Mr Aldous will seek support from local businesses, charities and volunteers to make the winning entry work for the community.

Mr Aldous said:

“School children are amongst the creative and innovative people in our community and this is a great opportunity for them to show their creative skills. Do you think the Train Station looks tired? Is Ness Point neglected? Does your local park need perking up? What suggestions do you have that could improve a particular area and encourage local volunteers to be involved in the process?”

The winner(s) will be invited to the House of Commons to join Mr Aldous for lunch with their teacher and a tour of the Houses of Parliament.

The deadline for the competition is 15th April 2011 and entries will be judged by a panel of judges with the winner and runners up to be announced by the end of April.
