Waveney MP Peter Aldous today commented on news announced today that the Department for Transport (DfT) has approved a Suffolk County Council bid, supported by Mr Aldous, for sustainable transport improvements in Lowestoft.

DfT will be providing £5 million out of a total package cost of £6.25 million, to install a pedestrian and cycle crossing over Lake Lothing, to improve facilities for bus users at Lowestoft railway station, and to support the introduction of a new bus service.

Suffolk County Council will provide £1.25 million and also hope to be able to carry out most of the works that were included in a recent Regional Growth Fund bid to improve port access, which will open up land for commercial development which should bring new jobs to Lowestoft .

Mr Aldous said:

“It is great news that Suffolk County Council have been successful in their bid for this money which will make a real difference to transport services in Lowestoft, improving accessibility and promoting the use of public transport These works will play an important role in upgrading infrastructure and making Lowestoft a more attractive location for businesses.”
