Waveney MP Peter Aldous today expressed his sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of firefighter Alan Soards, who was unexpectedly taken ill during a water rescue training course at Lea Valley. Despite valiant attempts, both the paramedics and his colleagues were unable to save his life.

Chief Fire Officer, Andy Fry, will be personally leading the investigation surrounding the circumstances of Alan Soards’ sad death and supporting his colleagues at Suffolk’s Fire and Rescue Service following this shocking incident.

Mr Aldous said:

“This is tragic news; Alan served with distinction in the Fire Service for many years and my thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time. It is appropriate to reflect on the invaluable work that those working in the emergency services carry out for the community.”
