Waveney MP Peter Aldous is continuing to investigate the reasons behind delays to ambulance services in Waveney.

Mr Aldous is acting after having received correspondence from Waveney constituents concerned about the time ambulances are taking to get to emergencies.

In October Mr Aldous wrote to and subsequently met with Dr Pamela Chrispin, Deputy Chief Executive and Medical Director, East of England Ambulance Trust to express his concerns.

Peter’s discussions with Dr Chrispin and others have suggested that one of the reasons for the delays may be long turnaround times in ambulances bringing patients to Accident and Emergency Departments at district general hospitals. Mr Aldous is now looking in to whether difficulties with turnaround times at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital are part of the problem.

Aldous has written to David Prior, CBE, Chairman of the Norfolk and Norwich Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to express his concerns and is seeking a meeting both to discuss how turnarounds can be improved and to visit the accident and emergency facilities at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. On 1st and 7th of December Mr Aldous will be spending time with ambulance crews operating from the Waveney Depot at Gorleston to understand the operation of the service more fully and to obtain input from the crews on potential problems.

Peter is calling on the service to publish postcode performance information which he believes will serve an important role in identifying areas across the East of England where there are problems so that resources can be better directed.

Mr Aldous said:

“Waveney residents deserve top-class health services and general performance results in our area are good. Getting ambulances to patients in good time is extremely important and it is essential that delays are addressed. Working directly with senior members of the East of England Ambulance Trust, the regions hospitals and A&E crews I hope to be able to obtain a better understanding of the specific problems affecting our ambulance service in order to help improve response times.”
