Waveney MP Peter Aldous has today welcomed new statistics that show a record number of people in Waveney started apprenticeship in 2011/12. The data also has provisional results for the number of apprenticeship starts in the first quarter of 2012/13 – in April to June 2012 - 370 people started apprenticeships in just three months.

In the last financial year, 920 people started an apprenticeship in Waveney – an increase of 70 per cent from 2009/10.

Mr Aldous commented:

“Apprenticeships are an excellent way for young people to get relevant skills for their working careers. These record levels of apprenticeships are fantastic news for our country, for Waveney and most of all for the people whose lives are being transformed by the opportunities they offer.

I look forward to continuing to work with local education providers to help ensure people in the Waveney area are skilled to take up jobs in growth areas such as the energy sector.”
