Waveney MP Peter Aldous today commented as the Ofsted inspection of East Point Academy in Lowestoft was published.

East Point is a Sponsor Academy, which has been run by the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) since September 2011. Following the inspection on 6th and 7th March this year, Ofsted have concluded that the school requires “special measures” having been judged as being “inadequate” in the four areas of achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviours and safety of pupils and leadership and management.

Mr Aldous is meeting the Academies Enterprise Trust at the school on Friday to go through the report and to seek to agree the means by which Ofsted’s concerns can be addressed.

He has also taken up the matter with the Secretary of State for Education. In a letter to Michael Gove, Aldous has expressed his concerns that many pupils and their families in south Lowestoft have not been receiving the high school education that they are entitled to expect and he has requested a meeting to ensure that all steps are taken to improve the school’s performance as quickly as possible.

Commenting on the report, Mr Aldous said:

“A large number of parents are at present being let down and it is important that all steps are taken to turn round the school as soon as practically possible.”
