Waveney MP Peter Aldous today welcomed the Government's allocation of a £1.3 million Local Infrastructure Fund (LIF) loan to a third Enterprise Zone site; the land at Ellough on the outskirts of Beccles.

This follows a £1.9 million loan to provide site servicing, infrastructure and utilities to two Enterprise Zone sites in Lowestoft; at Mobbs Way and on the South Lowestoft Industrial Estate. The New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership [LEP] Enterprise Zone covering 6 sites in Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth is part of the East of England Energy Zone. Energy-related businesses in these areas will benefit from simplified planning for developers, a £250,000 business rate discount and superfast broadband.

The funding will enable developers to provide both serviced industrial land and commercial units for businesses as major offshore renewable energy development opportunities arise in the next few years. It is estimated that there will be over £50 billion capital expenditure invested over the next 20 years in Round 3 offshore wind farms, oil and gas exploration and extraction, nuclear-new build and decommissioning, and gas storage and platform decommissioning

Mr Aldous said:

"This is good news for the Waveney area and I am grateful to the New Anglia LEP for all their hard work in the bidding process to secure funding for the three sites. The loans are crucial to opening up the Enterprise Zones, so that businesses invest in the area, thereby creating jobs and boosting the local economy."

The New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership for Norfolk and Suffolk will continue to work in collaboration with the Department for Communities and Local Government and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and infrastructure developers to investigate whether any further funds will be made available in the future.
