Waveney MP Peter Aldous has today received confirmation from the Rt. Hon. Patrick McLoughlin, Secretary of State for Department of Transport, that the Government has listened to the concerns of business leaders and communities in Suffolk and has decided to not introduce tolls on the proposed upgrade of the A14 between Cambridge and Huntingdon. Construction is planned to start in 2016 and the scheme is one of the Government’sTop 40 priority investments.

Peter Aldous said of the news: “This is an important decision for the people and businesses of Suffolk. I thank the Chamber of Commerce and everyone involved in the campaign who voiced their concerns to Government to whom I am grateful for listening. It is important that the Department for Transport now press ahead with the preparatory work for the scheme, so that work does start in 2016, if not beforehand.”
