Waveney MP Peter Aldous has pledged his support to the Boost Bingo Campaign launched by the Bingo Association.

In a letter to Sajid Javid, Financial Secretary at the Treasury, Aldous urged the Government to bring tax on bingo in line with other popular leisure activities.

While most other gambling activities are taxed at 15%, the bingo industry is subjected to a 20% tax rate. This could have a profound impact both on investment in the industry and on many elderly people whos lives would be effected should bingo businesses be forced to close.

Last week, Peter visited Beacon Bingo on Battery Green in Lowestoft and saw the importance of protecting the interests of the industry to people in the local community.

Peter Aldous commented:

“I am delighted to support the Boost Bingo campaign and thoroughly enjoyed visiting Beacon Bingo. For many people bingo is an important social activity that brings together people of different ages and it is vital that the industry is protected from the burden of high taxes.”
