Peter Aldous MP for Waveney has today welcomed announcements in the budget to support pubs in Waveney.

The Budget announced that tax on beer is to be cut by 1p per pint, helping local pubs.

It was also announced that duties on Scotch whisky and cider will be frozen, supporting the Scottish whisky industry and helping West Country cider makers hit by the recent weather, and that the duty escalator for wine will be abolished.

Mr Aldous commented:

“This is great news for the 4,360 pubs and the 57,700 people who work in pubs in the East Anglia. Pubs are an important part of local life in the Waveney area and the wider economy, and I welcome this reduction in beer tax, which will help protect jobs, bring fairness to the pub industry and support breweries.”
