Aldous attends local Federation of Small Businesses Banking Forum

Peter Aldous MP for Waveney last week attended the East Anglia Banking Forum event in Mundford near Thetford.

The event, hosted by the Federation of Small Business (FSB), aimed to bridge better links between businesses, banks and customers, to encourage people to set up businesses and raise awareness about the support available to businesses during the current challenging economic climate.

Mr Aldous was joined by other MPs from the East of England, local businesses and representatives from the banking sector including HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds TSB, RBS and Santander to examine access to finance, extended repay facility and business angels for small and medium sized businesses (SMEs).

The Government has implemented a number of measures with the objective of supporting SMEs and ensuring that they have the necessary access to funding. These include the Funding for Lending Scheme, the Business Bank and the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme.

Mr Aldous said:

“Businesses need to be made aware of the lending streams available to them, not only from the lending banks but also from Government schemes. In order to do this, constructive dialogue between businesses, banks and MPs such as the Banking Forum is vital.

The event itself showed positive signs for the future of business in the Waveney area and I am delighted with the news that lending to small businesses across the East has increased by 5pc compared to the previous year.”

Peter Martin, Regional Treasurer of the FSB said:

“Actually having a relationship manager on the commercial side means that the bank gets to understand your business rather than just asking for money from them. As part of that because they know more about your business, they will be more receptive to the right level of funding for the business.”
