Badger Culls

8th October 2020

The badger cull has led to a significant reduction in the disease but it is not desirable to continue indefinitely. The Government asked Sir Charles Godfray to conduct a review; this concluded in October 2018 and earlier this year the Government set out its proposed next steps in response.

The current BCG vaccine will never provide full protection but funding will be made available to hasten the research and trials needed. The aim is to have a deployable vaccine in the next five years together with an exit strategy from the intensive culling of badger.
