Waveney MP Peter Aldous has welcomed the news that East Point Academy will receive funding for the refurbishment of its school buildings. The Government’s priority school building programme targets schools in most need of repair. This money will be used to ensure that East Point Academy has the facilities to deliver the best education, so that pupils can fulfil their potential and get on in life.
The Government has allocated an extra £2 billion for investment in buildings at over 270 schools across the country, to address the needs of schools in the worst condition. This is a five year programme, due to be completed in 2021.
This building programme runs alongside wider efforts to invest in our schools and addresses individual projects that are of such a significant scale that it would be difficult to pay for them through regular maintenance allocations. An initial wave of 261 schools that received similar funding last year.
“Families in south Lowestoft deserve local schools with facilities that provide the best learning environment. It is great news that it has been possible to fund this boost for East Point Academy and to address pupils’ needs. Providing young people with the best possible education and the skills that they need in life is of the highest priority and this announcement means that pupils in south Lowestoft will get the investment in their education that they deserve.”
Prime Minister David Cameron said:
“Delivering great schools that can inspire future generations and give them the skills they need to thrive is central to our long term economic plan for Britain. Conservatives including Peter Aldous MP are working hard to ensure that we provide an education system in Lowestoft that will help children succeed in life.”
“And it’s thanks to the difficult decisions we’ve made and the strong economy that we’ve built that we can continue to invest in education. Which is why today we are committing to rebuild and modernise hundreds of schools across the country - giving children a place to fulfil their potential and secure a better, brighter future.”
