Home Heat Helpline

Peter Aldous MP for Waveney has called on residents to use the free Home Heat Helpline to find out if they are entitled to assistance in heating their homes.
On Tuesday, Peter Aldous met with representatives from the Home Heat Helpline to learn more about the service. As households prepare to face the cold winter, new research shows many homes are eligible for assistance from their energy supplier. The Home Heat Helpline has found a total of 3.6 million households across the UK qualify for help.
The large suppliers (British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON, First Utility, npower, ScottishPower and SSE) have now opened their Warm Home Discount schemes for winter 2014 - 2015, so eligible customers should make sure they are taking full advantage of the help available. Vulnerable, low-income households should apply as soon as possible to receive £140 off their winter energy bills. For information on applying for the Warm Home Discount, call your supplier or speak to one of our friendly advisors at the Helpline on 0800 33 66 99 now.
The Helpline sees the most calls over winter months; many of which are from people struggling to stay warm or with energy bills they cannot pay. The Helpline is bracing itself for a large number of calls this winter having received almost 80,000 calls last year. Their expert advisors are on hand all year round to provide free, confidential advice on grants and help for paying bills as well as tips on energy efficiency.
Peter Aldous MP said:
"There are many people living locally in the Waveney area who are entitled to relief from energy companies this year and it is vital that we raise awareness about the support available. Forecasters are predicting a cold winter ahead and many older people or those on low incomes may not know where to turn for help and advice on keeping their homes warm. Vulnerable residents should not suffer in silence this winter when help is available at no cost to them."
