Minister for Coastal Communities Visit

Waveney MP Peter Aldous welcomed the new Minister for Coastal Communities, Local Growth and Resilience, Penny Mordaunt, on her visit to the Lowestoft Enterprise Zone on Wednesday.
During her tour Ms. Mordaunt visited the Mobbs Way Business Park, part of the Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft Enterprise Zone. Mobbs Way is one of the six Enterprise Zones sites in the Waveney and Great Yarmouth area. On the Business Park M S Oakes Ltd are building nineteen business units which are almost complete and which are letting very well, with a number of businesses already in occupation, with a variety of uses including trade counter, workshop, storage and distribution.
The new scheme, which is the first to be built in the Lowestoft area on the Enterprise Zone on a speculative basis, will provide a total of 19 light industrial /trade counter units arranged in five blocks and providing a total of 2,025m². The scheme also includes two 159.7m² self-contained two-storey office buildings.
Minister Mordaunt commented:
“I’m grateful to Peter Aldous for showing me around. I was really impressed with the New Anglia Enterprise Zone. So much has been achieved in the last 18 months in what was an underutilised site. I met people with confidence and a clear vision and understanding of the locality, who want to make this area thrive and become a centre of excellence for renewable industries.
“The Government’s long term economic plan is to build a resilient economy. I was glad to hear how our billion pound package of investment in local businesses, such as targeted business rate discounts, is helping these businesses reach their potential.”
Mr. Aldous commented:
“It was good to welcome Penny Mordaunt, the Minister for Coastal Communities, to Lowestoft so she could see for herself the excellent progress that has been made on the Mobbs Way Business Park, which is now almost complete and filling up fast. It is providing much needed accommodation for local businesses looking to grow and create new jobs. Special thanks are due to M S Oakes LTD for their proactive approach to the development. The Enterprise Zone allocation has been a very helpful catalyst in bringing forward the development of the Business Park, which is already playing a key role in revitalising the local economy and creating new jobs.”
Colin Law commented:
“The Enterprise Zone is a real catalyst for economic growth and offers genuine benefits to businesses. Mobbs Way is a great example of the Enterprise Zone in action and I’m delighted that the Minister has been here to see it first-hand.
The advantages of the Enterprise Zone are three-fold : -
1 – A simplified and cheaper process for obtaining planning permission.
2 – Free business rates for up to five years.
3 – Provision of high speed broadband.
