Peter Aldous receives feedback from Prisons Minister about closure of HMP Blundeston

Waveney MP Peter Aldous has now received a response from the Government to his letter to Justice Secretary Chris Grayling, in which he set out his disappointment regarding the closure of the prison, sought clarification as to how the decision was reached and emphasised the importance of doing everything possible to look after the interests of those affected by the closure in the coming weeks.

Prisons Minister Jeremy Wright highlighted the hard work carried out by the prison’s staff and emphasised the decision to close the prison was not a reflection of its performance.

Peter Aldous commented:
“I am revisiting Blundeston this week to speak again to staff and I shall do all that I can to ensure that their interests are properly looked after at this difficult time.

“It is also important to minimise any impact on the local economy and this is an issue which I am pursuing with the Government.”
