Waveney District Council are to be applauded for encouraging people to participate in the Home Office's drug consultation paper according to Peter Aldous, Waveney's Conservative Parliamentary Candidate.

"After ten years in power New Labour's policies on drugs have failed. The fact that this consultation is taking place is a clear indictment of that fact. Hundreds of thousands of young lives have been ruined and drugs have fuelled a gun and knife culture on our streets today", said Mr Aldous.

The consultation paper will consider a wide range of issues. However Mr Aldous urged that action should be taken to ensure that cannabis is reclassified as a Class B drug, there is better drug education in schools, there are better treatment programmes and that a dedicated UK Border Police is established to stop drugs coming in to the country.

"Dealing with this expanding drug culture will be a priority for a Conservative government", added Mr Aldous.
