Peter Aldous opposes a possible unitary authority for Waveney and Great Yarmouth.

Commenting on a possible unitary authority for Waveney and Great Yarmouth, Peter Aldous, the Conservatives' Parliamentary Candidate said: "This is something that I cannot support. Waveney is best served by Suffolk County Council, Waveney District Council and the other 5 district councils in the county working more closely and cost effectively through the Pathfinder Scheme, which has only just been approved by the Government.

"I also think that the existing councils should wherever possible devolve powers down to local communities, rather than look to create new organisations, which will involve a lot of upheaval and wasted money.

"It is right that Waveney and Yarmouth now work together on many fronts, such as in health and on regeneration projects, though ultimately Waveney will do best if it stands on its own two feet and remains part of Suffolk, building on a history and a heritage that has evolved over many centuries."
