“I watched Dominic Cummings’ press conference on Monday with considerable interest and I recognise that he and his family have been through a difficult ordeal, which has included the threat of violence and intimidation, which is not acceptable. That said, I have not changed my opinion that he should resign on the basis that he has pursued a course that leaves a clear impression that there is one rule for those in positions of authority and another for the rest. I continue to receive a large number of e-mails from constituents; some are supportive of Mr Cummings, but the very clear majority are not, with many correspondents highlighting the sacrifices that they and their families have made to abide by both the spirit and the letter of the regulations.”
