Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Peter Aldous has welcomed news that the South Pier in Lowestoft is to be reopened.

The South Pier was popular with anglers and easily accessible for disabled sea fishermen. It was also an attraction for holidaymakers, birdwatchers, photographers and town residents.

Peter has given special thanks to Trevor Blowers representing the disabled fishermen for all the work that he has done in obtaining support from both fishermen and businesses to enable the pier to reopen.

Peter Aldous said:

“I am pleased to report that the ongoing efforts to find a way to enable the South Pier to be reopened are now making real progress. I have been working with the owners of the pier (Associated British Ports) a number of local businesses and individuals, whose commitment to find a way forward now looks likely to be successful. This will involve the creation of a charity to take on responsibility for access to the pier. The legal arrangements relating to setting up the organisation and associated lease arrangements will take a little time to complete. However, I am confident that the outstanding matters will be resolved and the pier reopened later this year. I anticipate that further details can be made public in the near future."
