Responding to the report in the Lowestoft Journal that the level crossing improvements that will reduce the time that the barriers are down and traffic congestion builds up, could be delayed until 2018, Peter Aldous commented:

“The congestion that currently takes place is unacceptable and in discussions with Network Rail. They had assured me that the work would be carried out by October 2016. I emphasised the importance of these works to Baroness Kramer, the Minister of State at the Department for Transport and she wrote back to me in March assuring me that the timescale for completing the works would not slip. A two year delay is completely unacceptable as Lowestoft motorists have had to put up with this problem for far to long. If re-elected as MP for Waveney, I would immediately lobby Network Rail and the new Government to ensure that the work takes place as quickly as possible and previous undertakings are kept.”
