Peter Aldous highlights the benefits for both freight and passengers of an alternative rail route avoiding London.

Peter Aldous (Waveney) (Con): Does my hon. Friend agree that the proposal would play a valuable role in getting freight from the east coast ports across the country without needing to go into London? It would also provide another way for passengers to travel without using the over-congested Great Eastern line from Norwich to Liverpool street.

Iain Stewart: My hon. Friend makes an important point.
