Waveney MP Peter Aldous this week pledged his support to a campaign to improve consumer confidence in the microgeneration industry at an event organised by energy company E.ON last week.

Aldous backed E.ON’s call for a single, customer-friendly quality mark for the microgeneration industry to give people the confidence to buy the right system for them if they were thinking about generating their own energy. With the introduction of schemes like the Feed-In Tariff and the Renewable Heat Incentive, more and more people have an incentive to generate their own energy at home, but many are confused about who they can trust, and what they can expect from home generation.

Experts at E.ON briefed Aldous, explaining that, while accreditation schemes like the Microgeneration Certification Scheme have made sure that technologies are safe and properly installed, customers need to have confidence at every stage when buying something like a solar panel or ground source heat pump.

Mr Aldous said:

“It’s important that people have all the information they need and can be confident that they are getting the best possible advice if they are thinking about installing microgeneration at home. And they then need to be sure that their investment will be rewarded. A recognisable quality mark for microgeneration will give customers confidence, and keep standards high in this new sector.”
