Waveney MP Peter Aldous today commented on the news that Suffolk County Council have agreed to provide a free bus service for pupils between Kessingland and Pakefield High School.

An appeal by parents concerned about the safety of the route to and from Pakefield High School to Kessingland has been upheld.

In November 2010 Aldous was joined by parents, children and residents to walk the route of the proposed footpath/cycleway from Kessingland to Pakefield High School and to witness first-hand the potential dangers faced by children on their journey to school.

Aldous wrote to the Portfolio Holder for Children, Schools, and Young People's Services at Suffolk County Council, Graham Newman, expressing his concern asking for the Council to review the provision of free bus travel on the route and has subsequently continued to lobby the County Council.

Mr Aldous said:
“Walking the route with parents, children and residents in November helped me understand their concerns about this busy road and the narrow pathway. I am very pleased Suffolk County Council have agreed to the provision of this important free bus service which will ensure many children have a safer journey to and from school.”
