Waveney MP Peter Aldous today welcomed news that SLP Engineering, a member of the Smulders Group, has been awarded a significant new contract by Nexen Petroleum UK Limited and co-venturers for a 140 man accommodation module for their Golden Eagle Area Development Project.

The EPC contract will be carried out at SLP’s Lowestoft yard with work commencing immediately to achieve a completion and sail-away on 1st May 2014.

Mr Aldous said:

“It is very good news that SLP have won this exciting contract. The energy sector offers considerable potential to create new jobs in Lowestoft, both in oil and gas and the renewable sectors. I look forward to working with SLP and other businesses to build on their good work, so that more jobs can be brought to the Waveney area.”

Paul Thomson, SLP’s MD, said that the multi million pound contract was won against UK and International competition.

“We are delighted to be part of the Golden Eagle Project which is one of the most exciting developments to come from the North Sea this decade. SLP is well and truly back in business and this contract alone will provide many local jobs for the next 30 months.”
