Waveney MP, Peter Aldous, visited the Age UK Suffolk recently to show his support of the charity’s new Help Centre for Older People in Lowestoft. He met Daphne Savage, Chief Executive, Helen Taylor, Information Manager and Maggie James, Fundraising and Development Officer who recently launched the appeal to raise money to create the new centre which will be at 112 London Road North, Lowestoft.

Peter Aldous MP said “Age UK Suffolk do excellent work providing advice, information and befriending services as well as confidential one-to-one support for older people and their carers in the Lowestoft area. I fully support their campaign to attract funding for the opening of their new premises in Lowestoft which will be more accessible for local older people most in need”.

Maggie James, Fundraising and Development Officer said “we were really pleased that the Waveney MP, Peter Aldous, took the time to visit our Head Office in Claydon to find out more about our work, advise us on funding opportunities and give us the chance to express our wishes for future funding from the government for preventative and support services for older people”.

Age UK Suffolk’s new Help Centre will be based in their new shop (which will fund the ongoing costs of its services in Lowestoft and Waveney) at 112 London Road North, a pedestrianised street, close to public transport and parking. It will provide advice and information, benefits advice, independence advice, befriending services and home visiting services and will signpost people to other community support such as lunch and social clubs. Confidential one-to-one support will be available for increasing numbers of older people and their family carers in Lowestoft and the Waveney area. The new Help Centre with its friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers will initially be open Monday to Friday from 9.30am – 1.00pm and there will be a telephone help-line outside of these hours.

If you would like to help the charity’s work in Lowestoft and Waveney, you can make a donation by sending either to Maggie James, Age UK Suffolk, 14 Hillview Business Park, Old Ipswich Road, Claydon, Ipswich IP6 0AJ or to the Lowestoft Journal, marking the envelope ‘Lowestoft Help Centre for Older People Appeal’. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Age UK Suffolk/Lowestoft Appeal’. Otherwise you can pop in a donation into the charity’s existing premises at the Age UK Suffolk (shop sign is still Age Concern Suffolk) charity shop in Station Square, Lowestoft. Another way to help would be to arrange to organise a fundraising activity or event in aid of the Lowestoft Appeal such as a coffee morning, bring and buy sale, concert, quiz or take up a challenge such as a trek, bike ride or run? Age UK Suffolk will welcome your ideas and your help would be very much appreciated for older people in Lowestoft and Waveney.
