Waveney MP Peter Aldous this week wrote to the Executive Officer of East of England Co-op Society to express his concern over the future of the Swines Green Post Office Counter at Rigbourne Hill, Beccles.

Mr Aldous wrote the letter requesting a meeting with the Executive Officer after having received letters of concern from local constituents as to the impact of a possible closure.

The potential closure is not a result of Government closures but a decision to be made by the Co-op who host the counter.

Mr Aldous said:

“Post offices and post offices counters are often central to local communities, providing critical services to people, many of whom are unable, or find it very difficult to travel to the nearest alternative. Over the last ten years many hundreds have closed across the country and the current Government has done all it can to stop this. I aim to meet with representatives from the Cooperative to see what can be done to keep this service open.”
