Waveney MP Peter Aldous is backing the Red Tractor Roadshow, which is part of the 19 stop national road show, launched by former England Rugby ace and farmer’s son Phil Vickery, in which pig farmers tour the country in a Red Tractor, handing out free bacon and sausage sandwiches to show their gratitude for the public’s on-going support.

English pig farmers are in crisis as soaring pig feed prices means that they are currently losing £10 per pig produced.

In this context, pig farmers are taking a tour round the country to express their gratitude for the support that British consumers are showing them by buying Red Tractor pork products.

Mr Aldous believes that pig farmers need to be supported to keep the UK pork industry sector globally competitive.

Commenting on the roadshow, Mr Aldous said:
“Britain’s pig farmers face an extremely tough few months due to soaring feed prices.

Being a partner in a family farm, which includes a pig unit, I am fully supportive of the campaign to buy Red Tractor pork and bacon.

UK pig farmers produce high quality meat to high welfare standards and it is important to give them every support in these difficult times and for the Government to do all that they can to ensure that British pig farmers are competing on a level playing field with their international competitors.”
