At the beginning of Climate Week 2013 Waveney MP Peter Aldous has welcomed the contribution of Green Business to the local economy.

Climate Week is Britain’s biggest climate change campaign culminating in a week of activities, which showcases practical solutions to the problems arising from climate change from every sector of society.

In the East of England there are 4,994 companies who are involved in green business, employing 86,887 people. In total £1.15bn is contributed to UK exports from green companies in the region.

The UK has the sixth largest share of the global green business market at £122 billion. The Government are taking various steps to help Britain capture a greater share of this market. These include the Green Deal, which is expected to support up to 60,000 jobs in the insulation sector alone by 2015 and the creation of the Green Investment Bank..

Peter said:

‘Climate Week 2013 offers a great chance to look not only at the environmental but economic benefit of going green.

‘Businesses across Waveney and Suffolk help to drive energy efficiency and generate growth and jobs. And through energy efficiency schemes like the Green Deal people will have the chance to save money on their energy bills by reducing the need to spend so much to stay warm’
