Chancellor visits A47

Along with other MPs from the region, Waveney MP Peter Aldous yesterday met Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne at the A47 at Postwick outside Norwich to re-emphasise the case for the A47 to be upgraded and extended to Lowestoft.
Mr. Aldous stressed that good road links from the Lowestoft and Waveney area to the rest of the country are vital to attracting business and creating new jobs.  Mr. Aldous is calling for the A47 to be extended from Great Yarmouth to Lowestoft, for the road to upgraded all the way to the A1 at Peterborough and for a long term commitment to be given to full dualling.
Peter Aldous said: “The Chancellor listened carefully to the case that we set out for upgrading the A47. This would send a strong positive signal to businesses considering setting up in the Waveney area. Extending the A47 to the south side of Lake Lothing will place Lowestoft properly on the strategic road network and will strengthen the case for a new crossing.”
Earlier this summer Mr Aldous, along with MPs from Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, had written to the Chancellor asking him to fund a significant upgrade of the A47 and they also held a debate in Westminster to reinforce their case.
