Waveney MP Peter Aldous today welcomed £4.635 million of capital funding to complete phase 5 of the Lowestoft Northern Spine Road.

Suffolk County Council’s bid for money from the Local Pinch Point Fund was successful and the scheme will provide a 1.1 km new single carriageway and shared walk/cycleway between the Millennium Way/Bentley Drive roundabout and north of the Blundeston Road junction on the A12 which becomes a trunk road again at the Bascule Bridge.

It will also provide a safe direct route for pedestrians and cyclists and remove the through traffic and congestion from the residential area of Bentley Drive.

Peter Aldous said:

“It is very good news that this bid has been successful. The Northern Spine Road is an important component part of the Lowestoft Transport Prospectus that will improve access to and around the town and will help bring jobs and business to the area. There are a range of other schemes included in the Prospectus, both short and long term, and it is important that there is no let up in work on these so as to provide the first class transport system that we need.”
